A FB friend posted something about how the Eagle's Greatest Hits album is one of the best in R&R history. This was my reply:

Since you are a classy guy I know you held back. I will fill it in. Fuck the Eagles. Anyhow, the Dude hates the Eagles, man

Pardon me, but your reply made you look bad. I encourage Hate on todays music industry. But hating on the eagles. You must be crazy.

Don Henley is a douchebag. So is Glenn Frey. The Eagles are the single most overrated band on Earth. Even more overrated than Bob Dillon ... and that is saying a LOT.

And your friend has, another opinion.

HAHAHA How ironic. I have never seen this movie. How is it called?

The big Lebowsky. You gotta see the big Lebowski.
It's the dude.

I'll allow that they have some great songs to their credit, and deserve to be recognized among other successful acts of their time, but "best in R&R history" is a pretty grandiose claim.
Rolling Stone puts them at 75 of 100 on their All Time list, They're in the 3rd tier for record sales right behind Garth Brooks, and they don't even make VH1's Top 100 .
We can ignore the VH1 snub, but the RS lists are pretty methodical and sales don't lie. There are other bands who did more with less and in less time.

Wait. You've never seen the movie but you used the meme? Wat?

Holy shit another person who understands how awful Bob Dylan is. The fiancee and her boulderite friends love Dylan.
His cancer addled-throat is like nails on a chalkboard.

Seriously, fuck the eagles
The Eagles of Death Metal, on the other hand kick ass.

Right his friend exagerates, but so does the life of Brian. You seem to have the answer.

Dylan can at least write songs, even if he can't much perform them.

According to Joni Mitchell (and others), he plagiarized a lot of what he wrote.

It'd make sense, given his loltastic amount of "life story" fakery. I still love the Travelling Wilburys though.

Of course! Because George Harrison and Roy Orbison were legitimately amazing people.

Regardless of their personalities I have yet to find anything redeeming in any of their music. Then again, I wasn't rockin' it out when they were fresh (which is, it seems, all they're good for). Reliving a time in one's past and reminiscing. Not my idea of what defines good music.
And the clichés...
The Eagles are the second-most overrated band though. You threw your balls out there, I'll do the same.
The most overrated band is U2. Anything after Joshua Tree (with the possible exception of Zooropa) is a "Beautiful Life" concept album, with nothing to say, nothing new or unique musically, seemingly adjusting to find just the right balance between rock, pop, and elevator music.

Yes. You and I are of similar opinions in U2. Their early stuff is great. And then Bono started taking himself way too seriously.
